SHEC LABS - Solar Hydrogen Energy Corp teams up with the University of Victoria for Large Scale Solar Concentrator

SHEC LABS - Solar Hydrogen Energy Corporation is participating in the University of Victoria's Sustainable Energy Systems Design (SESD) Senior Projects. "Our goal with this, and other initiatives, is to train highly qualified design engineers with the expertise to contribute to the reformation of the energy industry into a sustainable entity. Establishing ties with SHEC is definitely a step in the right direction" said Jason Bazylak, B. Eng., a design engineer with the faculty of Engineering and Office of the NSERC (Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada) Chair in Sustainable Energy Systems Design Engineering with the University of Victoria.

The Project title is:
Super Structure Design of a Solar Collection Array for Hydrogen Production

THE COMPANY
Saskatoon-based SHEC (Solar Hydrogen Energy Corporation) has been a world leader in clean renewable hydrogen research, and is about to become one of the world leaders in hydrogen production with its innovative use of the sun's energy to create hydrogen from landfill gas. SHEC has constructed and demonstrated a system to produce hydrogen using methane that is powered primarily by sunlight-focusing mirrors.

The system comprises a solar mirror array, an advanced solar concentrator, a shutter system to control the amount of radiant energy entering the reactor, and two thermo-catalytic reactors that will convert methane, carbon dioxide and water into hydrogen. The New Energy Congress has ranked this technology as one of the top best renewable energy technologies in the world. More information on SHEC can be found online at www.shec-labs.com.

THE PROJECT
Having demonstrated its technology, SHEC is now looking to increase its efficiency and thereby lower collection cost. One method by which they intend to do this is through the design of a next generation super structure. The design team will be tasked with the analysis and modeling of the existing super structure, conceptualizing of new, more efficient super structure designs, modeling those designs and building and analyzing a scaled down proof-of-concept for one of the resultant super structures.

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA DESIGN TEAM - SHEC PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
This is a challenging project which will give an exceptional design team the chance to see immediate, real world application of their design work. A strong mechanical engineering background is desirable since the project will be mechanical intensive. Additionally, as the client is located in Saskatchewan the design team must be comfortable with remote client interaction and be very self-driven. The ideal design team member will not only have the technical skills, but also the passion and drive to assist in ushering in of the hydrogen economy through clean solar technologies.

The SHEC LABS project details can be seen on the University of Victoria web site at: http://design.engr.uvic.ca/student-projects/projects/solar-hydrogen-energy-corporation-shec-labs.

"This partnership is a timely win-win scenario for SHEC and the University of Victoria as SHEC is nearing the deployment stage of its technology. This is SHEC's second publicly disclosed university association. SHEC also has a partnership with the University of Toronto, Department of Chemical Engineering" said Tom Beck, President and CEO of SHEC LABS.

About SHEC LABS - (Solar Hydrogen Energy Corporation)
SHEC LABS, a research and development company now embarking on commercialization, is a world leader in providing solutions for the production of clean, renewable energy for the emerging hydrogen economy. SHEC LABS, founded in 1996, has developed technologies to more economically harness the power of the sun, reduce the temperatures required for the disassociation of water, more economically produce hydrogen from fossil fuels and produce hydrogen from biomass sources.
