SHEC Energy at WFES
World Future Energy Summit (WFES)
16,820 people from 79 countries visited 359 exhibitors at the 2nd World
Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This figure includes the 2,634
delegates kicking off the energy debate in 2009 with prominent world
leaders and renewable energy experts.
In his address to WFES delegates, Matthias Machnig, German State
Secretary, Federal Ministry of the Environment and representative of
Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel stated "We are standing at the
beginning of the third industrial revolution because that is what is
needed (to counter carbon emissions)."
"This will become one of the biggest markets in the world, bigger than
automotive," he said. "This shows the potential of the sector and the
possibilities for investment in the coming years. Energy is one of the
key issues of the 21st century."
In the United States, President Obama has pledged significant funds to
renewable energy, earmarking a substantial portion of his economic
recovery program for renewable energy.
SHEC Energy at WFES
Tom Beck, SHEC Energy CEO spearheaded SHEC's involvement with the
summit:
SHEC Energy's participation at the WFES was a great success. We
were met with enthusiasm as hundreds of interested parties visited
our exhibit. Interest has been expressed in partnerships,
licensing, project deployment and financing. "Your technology is a
winner," said one of the visitors to our exhibit. This sentiment
was expressed in various ways by numerous visitors. The WFES was
heavily saturated by numerous companies making Photo Voltaic or
Solar Cell technology. There were a few companies involved in Solar
Thermal power generation. SHEC differentiated itself from the crowd
as the only company that has developed a high efficiency solar
thermal receiver that has been field proven over two years as well
as having a high temperature thermal storage technology.
SHEC's Technology
SHEC's technology can be applied to Point Focus dish systems suitable
for power generation in the range of 25KW up to 2MW and larger scale
Advanced Solar Towers for power generation in the range of 10MW to the
GW range. The advanced solar towers can easily incorporate SHEC's high
temperature storage technology to provide up to 24 hours of power per
day in areas with good solar conditions.
The Achilles heel to renewable energy is its intermittent production.
This very much limits the opportunity for grid connect since
electricity cannot be economically stored. SHEC's high temperature
storage technology allows the thermal energy of the sun to be stored so
it can produce electricity when the sun is not shining. This enables
SHEC's technology to provide base-load power or to load shift the
energy from the sun. For example, solar produces most of its energy at
solar noon but most energy consumption is between 6 and 8 PM when the
evening meal is being cooked.
About SHEC Energy Corporation
SHEC formed in 1996 with the mandate of producing renewable energy cost
competitively with fossil fuels. SHEC has developed advanced highly
efficient solar technologies and manufacturing technologies to achieve
this goal. Solar energy was the logical renewable source because it is
abundant with about 6,000 times more energy bombarding the Earth than
all of humanities energy requirements. It also has a lifespan of
billions of years. SHEC's technology is not only applicable for power
generation, but can also co-generate hot water, chilled water and
desalinated water simultaneously with little additional cost. The
technology can also be applied to thermal chemical processes such as
alternative fuel production.
